From Wheelchair to Walking across the North of England

I’m an athlete who knows what it’s like to soar! โ€ฆ And also feel completely hobbled.

In 2011 and 2012 I needed a wheelchair to walk more than a few steps.

In 2014 and 2015 I could use my hands and forearms just 5% of the time that a typical person can.

With patience and perseverance โ€“ and joy โ€“ I relearned how to walk, regained my strength.

I remembered: I’m an athlete!

In 2022 I gave myself something exciting to train for.

On this page I chronicle that adventure.

If you’d like to support me on my adventure across the north of England,

11/28/22… This is a fun update โ€“ itโ€™s from the place Iโ€™ve come to think of as my very own Narnia!

And may or may not include some happy tears ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for being here ๐Ÿฅพ๐Ÿ•บ

Iโ€™m sharing about my May 2022 England adventure at http://kaylockkolp.com/adventures (hey, you’re here, right now!) and the direct gofundme is https://www.gofundme.com/f/from-wheelchair-to-walking-across-england

10/20/22.. Two weeks ago my son and I got well and truly lost in a place I thought I could never get lost in.

Itโ€™s been such an interesting journey as I have processed this and figured out how to not lose my mind while finding my way across the north of England on foot.

If youโ€™d like to read more about my walk across the north of England next May (182 miles! In three weeks!), support me or help share about my story, THANK YOU

10/1/22.. As I am upping my training I am noticing some of the oldest and deepest scarring and injuries resurfacingโ€ฆ

The solution is threefold: excellent massage therapy, love from the awesome people in my life โ€“ thatโ€™s you! โ€“ and grapevines and speed drills in the backyard.

Itโ€™s a good thing I love those!

9/15/22.. Hi Friends! Today I got lost and never reached the summit of Goat Hill!

How it goes sometimes. It was a great walk anyway ๐Ÿ™‚

8/22/22.. Hello fun seekers! Last week I got all excited about the amount of miles I’d walked in a weekโ€ฆ
until I realized how much MORE than that I would need to be walking to complete my coast-to-coast path walk across the north of England!

It nearly derailed my training โ€“ until I figured out a go round ๐Ÿ™‚
